Some announcements carry both joy and sadness—and this was one of those moments.
During Sunday’s service, Pastor Paul invited Martye Haugstad and her husband Randy to the stage to share a significant transition in their lives. What followed was a beautiful reflection on faithfulness, community, and a season coming to a close.
Martye and Randy have been part of our church family for 26 years. Over the past 12 years, Martye has faithfully served in two key roles—first as Women’s Ministry Leader, and most recently as Groups Director, helping hundreds of people move beyond Sunday mornings and into meaningful, life-giving community.
As Martye shared, ministry was never about just gathering in rows on Sundays, but about forming circles during the week—because that’s where real life happens. Through her leadership, countless people found connection, belonging, and friendship.
This season marks Martye’s retirement, as she and Randy step into a long-anticipated next chapter. After owning property at the coast since their twenties, doors opened faster than expected, and a home that was originally scheduled for completion in June will now be finished in January. With that joy also comes the bittersweet reality of transition—leaving a home they’ve lived in for as long as they’ve attended this church, and stepping away from a role that has been central to their lives.
Yet even in retirement, Martye reminded us that this isn’t goodbye.
They plan to continue attending once a month for as long as possible, and Martye remains fully present through this transition season. If you know Martye, you know “retirement” doesn’t mean slowing down—it simply means finding new places to faithfully serve.
Pastor Paul reminded us that some people are impossible to replace—and Martye is one of them. Hundreds are in community today because of her leadership, humility, and steady presence.
The moment concluded with a standing ovation and a prayer of blessing—thanking God for the joy, faithfulness, and service that Martye and Randy have poured into this church, and praying for God’s continued guidance in the season ahead.
“Well done, good and faithful servant.”
Martye, thank you. Your impact will continue to ripple through this church family for years to come.
