baptism at sonrise
The Bible teaches baptism is a primary step in submission to a vital relationship with Christ. At Sonrise, we only baptize people by immersion after they have professed Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, and agree by belief that He rose again from the dead (Acts 16:31-34a; Rom 10:9-13). At the end of this email is a link to a form, so we can process your information, get you baptized, then issue you a baptismal certificate. Please read through this very carefully and feel free to ask questions. We want you to have an understanding of baptism before you follow through with this decision.

Baptism is a symbol of your identification by faith with the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Baptism is the perfect picture of your old way of life being dead and buried, and your new way of life having begun. The old has gone and the new has come — all because of Jesus' work for you on the cross (2 Cor. 5:17).
"Or have you forgotten when we became Christians and were baptized [in the Spirit] to become one with Christ Jesus, that we died with him? For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism [in His Spirit]. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives.” - Romans 6:3-4

Baptism is not how you receive eternal life. Only faith in Jesus can do that. "God saved you by his special favor when you believed. And you can't take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it." - Ephesians 2:8-9
According to scripture, when you put your trust in Jesus for eternal life you become a child of God apart from any works you have accomplished. Baptism is an outward illustration of an inward work that God has done and is doing in your life.

Baptism is the first step to identifying with the message of Jesus. After all, He was baptized to identify with us and now, we are baptized to identify with Him. Jesus commanded all who follow Him to be baptized.
Jesus came and told his disciples, "I have been given complete authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age." - Matthew 28:18-20

Baptism is a time of proclaiming your changed life because of Jesus Christ. We baptize anyone who is able to share life change by the work of Jesus Christ. We do not baptize children who are not able to communicate this life change. We believe baptism is a voluntary act of obedience after following Christ as Lord, not a decision made by someone else. Over the years, we have re-baptized many people who were baptized as babies and children, because they now understand their baptism is a picture of their belief in Jesus Christ for eternal life.

On the day you are being baptized, or before, we will walk you through the location where you will change your clothing, where the baptism will take place, how you will go up the stairs and down into the water. We will also take a short video of your story about coming to believe Christ as your Lord and Savior before your baptism. Because you have indicated your desire to walk with Jesus and be baptized, we ask that you provide us with more information so we can begin. Please fill out the following form below.
Please take the time to fill out the form completely. The information on this form is used to produce a legal document (Baptismal Certificate) for the establishment of birth and identity within many states, including the state of Oregon, so please make certain to include the correct information.

On the day of your baptism, we’ll have you arrive to the church 30 minutes prior to the service you’re going to attend. You’ll meet with our videographer in front of the baptismal, where you’ll then be directed to the studio for a quick video. In this video you’ll introduce yourself, share some of the backstory of your faith journey, and then answer the question “why are you getting baptized today?” While participating in this video is optional, we highly encourage it, as it provides a wonderful opportunity to share your testimony and the transformative work God is doing in your life with the entire church community. Testimonies vary from 10 seconds to 2 minutes - we just encourage you to share from your heart! Baptism videos are showcased every 1-2 months during the service."
