3 Day Bible Reading Plan - “The Power of Prayer - Why It Matters Week 3”

Jesus is not writing us a blank check when He says, “If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.” He is promising us that the supply chain for His global mission to offer eternal life to all nations will never be disrupted. Prayer is not like pressing your overhead light button in first class and calling the stewardess to get you another martini. Prayer is radioing your commanding officer and requesting aerial support because you are pinned down by enemy fire. - Pastor Paul Crandell, 4/26/26

Day 1

Featured Verse: John 14:8–11

  • What would it look like for you to do the works Jesus did, not just the miracles, but the works of love, obedience, and dependence on the Father?

  • In what areas of your life right now are you still saying (like Philip), “Show me more” or “I need clearer proof,” even though Jesus has already revealed Himself to you?

  • If someone asked you today, “Have you really known Jesus this whole time?” how would you answer, and what evidence from your life would support that answer?

Pause and Reflect: Lord Jesus, thank You for making the Father known to me so clearly through Your words, Your works, and Your very life. Help me move beyond asking “Show me more” and instead rest in the beautiful reality that when I see You, I have truly seen the Father. Deepen my belief in Your unity with Him so that my life reflects Your works and Your presence every day.

“We profess to be earnest in seeking God; and when he presents himself before our eyes, we are blind…‘Have I been so long time with you?’ Christ justly reproves Philip for not having the eyes of his faith pure. He had God present in Christ, and yet he did not behold him.” - John Calvin

Day 2

Featured Verse: John 14:12

  • In what areas of your life are you hesitating to step out in faith because you feel inadequate to do the works Jesus did?

  • If you truly believed that greater works are possible through simple faith in Jesus, what bold step or ministry might you pursue that you’ve been holding back on?

  • Looking at your life so far, where have you already seen evidence of Jesus’ works continuing through you, and where do you long to see even greater things happen?

Pause and Reflect: Lord Jesus, thank You for Your breathtaking promise that whoever believes in You will do the works You did, and even greater things because You have gone to the Father. Fill me with fresh faith and bold obedience so that Your power flows through my ordinary life, advancing Your kingdom in ways I never thought possible.

“While the Master was here in his humiliation he healed a few poor Jews, and raised here and there a dead one, but he purposely veiled the splendor of his godhead. But now that he has gone up on high, he does greater wonders by his servants than he himself personally did, for he said to a few poor fishermen, ‘Go and break up the Roman Empire,’ and they did it. They preached the gospel, and the gods of the heathen that sat upon their thrones for ages were cast to the moles and the bats. And there are greater victories yet before the Church of God.” - Charles Spurgeon

Day 3

Featured Verse: John 14:13–14

  • When you pray, how often do you consciously aim for the Father to be glorified in the Son through your requests and what would that look like in practice?

  • What does it mean to ask “in Jesus’ name,” and how might that change the way you approach prayer this week?

  • If you truly believed that Jesus will do whatever you ask in His name, what specific bold request would you bring to Him right now, and why?

Pause and Reflect: Lord Jesus, thank You for the incredible invitation to ask anything in Your name, not as a blank check for my desires, but so that the Father may be glorified in You. Teach me to pray with bold faith and pure motives, aligning every request with Your will so that Your power is displayed and Your name is honored in every answer.

“It does not mean that every prayer will be answered. The power to ask a thing in Christ’s name is not given to everybody. It is not merely to say at the end of your prayer, ‘for Christ’s sake.’ It is another thing; it is to be able to feel that, as Christ stood in your place, so you dare stand in Christ’s place; and what you have asked, you have asked in his name, feeling that what you have asked is such that Christ would have asked it. Now, when you can feel that, and can feel that Christ puts his seal on what you have asked, then, you ask in his name.” - Charles Spurgeon
