3 Day Bible Reading Plan - “The Power of Prayer: Why It Matters”

Prayer changes things! Prayer thunders in the ear of God, affects His heart, and moves His hands. Prayer is not something that forces God to respond, as if an external power compels Him like a genie with rules. God’s compassion causes Him to pay attention to our prayers and act on our behalf. Through prayer, God is opening His heart to us. - Pastor Paul Crandell, 4/12/26

Day 1

Featured Verse: Psalm 65:1-4

  • What does it mean for you to offer God the praise that is rightfully due to Him, especially in the place where He has chosen to dwell?

  • How does knowing that God is the One who hears every prayer change the way you approach Him with your deepest needs and longings?

  • What does it mean for you to receive God’s forgiveness and atonement for your sins, and how does that reality shape your daily relationship with Him?

Pause and Reflect: Lord, You alone are worthy of all praise, and my heart was made to bring You the worship that is due Your name. Help me come to You today with honest confession, trusting that You hear my prayers and atone for every sin that overwhelms me, so that I may dwell in Your presence with joy and gratitude. Amen.

“Praise attends the Lord’s pleasure, and continues to bless him, whether he shows tokens of present favour or no; she is not soon wearied, but all through the night she sings on in sure hope that the morning cometh. We shall continue to wait on, tuning our harps, amid the tears of earth; but O what harmonies will those be which we will pour forth, when the home bringing is come, and the King shall appear in his glory.” - Charles Spurgeon

Day 2

Featured Verse: Psalm 65:5-8

  • When God answers your prayers in ways that feel awe-inspiring or even terrifying, how do you respond?

  • How does the truth that God created and upholds the strongest and most immovable things in nature affect the way you trust Him with the “mountains” (big obstacles or burdens) in your own life?

  • What signs of God’s power and care have you seen in creation or in your own life that cause you (and others) to stand in awe of Him?

Pause and Reflect: Lord, You are the awesome God who answers with righteousness and stills the roaring seas and the tumult of the peoples. Help me trust You as the hope of the ends of the earth, stand in awe of Your mighty signs in creation, and join the morning and evening in shouting for joy at Your faithful care over my life. Amen.

“He declares that God would answer his people by miracles or fearful signs, displaying his power; as if he had said, in deliverances as wonderful as those which he wrought for their fathers when they went out of Egypt. It is in no common or ordinary manner that God has preserved his Church.” - John Calvin

Day 3

Featured Verse: Psalm 65:9-13

  • How can you cultivate a heart that rejoices in God’s provision not only in the cultivated fields of your life, but also in the “wilderness” places where you least expect blessing?

  • Does your life “shout for joy and sing” in response to God’s generous care? What would it look like for you to join creation in loud, grateful praise for His abundant goodness today?

  • As you look back over the past year (or season), how have you seen God crown your life with His goodness and overflowing provision, even in unexpected ways?

Pause and Reflect: Lord, You tenderly care for the earth, drenching its furrows, softening the ground with showers, and crowning the year with Your overflowing bounty. Help me see Your generous hand in every provision of my life, soften the hard places in my heart, and join the meadows, valleys, and all creation in shouting for joy and singing Your praise. Amen.

“The year is crowned with God’s goodness like a king with a diadem. Every season has its own beauty, but the harvest season is the crown of all. God’s paths drop fatness; wherever he goes blessing follows. The wagon-tracks of his providence are loaded with abundance.” - Charles Spurgeon
