Giving At Sonrise
“Tell them to use their money to do good. They should be rich in good works and generous to those in need, always being ready to share with others. By doing this they will be storing up their treasure as a good foundation for the future so that they may experience true life.”
– 1 Timothy 6:18-19
Look around you at Sonrise.
What do you see?
People talking and enjoying a cup of coffee; The Sonrise worship team leading energetic worship music; a first-time guest receiving a free Bible; someone diligently listening to the message and taking notes; Children learning about the Bible in the Sonrise Kids area.
Each of these ministries is possible because Sonrise is a member-supported church. Without the tithes and offerings of our members and attenders it would be impossible to offer ministries that help people become fully developed followers of Jesus.
Imagine… what would happen if 100% of Sonrise regular attenders took the step to become regular givers at Sonrise. These are just a few things that would be possible:
- Expansion of current ministries
- Creation of new ministries
- More lives radically changed
- Deeper personal relationships with God
- Greater impact on our city and beyond
What does the Bible say about giving?
The Bible says more about giving than Heaven, prayer, or even faith! Here’s just a sample of what God says about giving:
Faithful giving draws me closer to God.
“Wherever your treasure is, there your heart and thoughts will be also.” – Matthew 6:21
Faithful giving is the key to a full life.
“Tell them to use their money to do good. They should be rich in good works and generous to those in need, always being ready to share with others. By doing this they will be storing up their treasure as a good foundation for the future so that they may experience true life.”
– 1 Timothy 6:18-19
Faithful giving blesses me in return.
“Bring all the tithes into the storehouse so there will be enough food in my Temple. If you do,” says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, “I will open the windows of heaven for you. I will pour out a blessing so great you won’t have enough room to take it in! Try it! Put me to the test!” – Malachi 3:10
Faithful giving makes me happy.
“There is more happiness in giving than receiving.” – Acts 20:35
Faithful giving reminds me that everything belongs to God.
“But remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth.” – Deuteronomy 8:18
Why should I give?
- Giving helps me to grow in my faith.
- Giving supports the ministries of Sonrise
- Giving allows me to be a part of God’s impact here in Hillsboro and beyond.
- One of the greatest measures of spiritual maturity is how we handle the resources that God has given us. Stewardship, honoring God with our finances, is a form of discipleship that will help you to become a fully developed follower of Jesus.
How much should I give?
The Bible says that every believer should give a minimum of 10% of their income, or a tithe, to the local church. Anything over 10% is called an offering and is a way to honor God through giving sacrificially.
Is my gift tax-deductible?
All contributions are 100% tax-deductible. A giving envelope must be completed in order for your gift to be tax-deductible. Giving statements are mailed regularly, as well as the end of the year, to help you keep track of your giving.
