Serving Our Community:

Share God's love in your community! Get involved, make a meaningful difference and help others in the name of Christ.

Here are some of the ways that Sonrisers serve the HIllsboro Community:

  • Hospital Visits
    • Show God's love to Sonrise family members through visitation of those in the hospital, or recovering from an illness at home.

  • S.O.S. Homeless Shelter
    • S.O.S.: Shelter at Orenco Station - The S.O.S. is a cooperative effort of 12 local churches that is attempting to address the very real needs of the burgeoning homeless population in Western Washington County. For this winter season, we will be open for 90 days beginning December 1st and running through February 28th. providing h a warm evening meal, a warm place to stay overnight, and breakfast in the morning. This ministry can't operate without volunteers! Opportunities include: supper prep and serving, evening hosting and shower monitoring, and overnight hosting. Please visit www.sos-shelter.org to learn more and be a part of this life-changing experience.

  • Garden Of Eat’n Garden Ministry
    • Sonrise Church and the City of Hillsboro have partnered  to offer community garden plots for public use on church property. The garden provides a place for local residents to grow food and in the meantime promotes community building and social interaction between gardeners, the neighbors and Sonrisers! Sonrise garden volunteers help tend the designated garden plot and manage fresh produce donations for the Food Pantry, and organize community events for all gardeners.

  • Mercy Meals
    • Need meals because of an illness, newborn babies, or a hospital stay? We would like to serve you! If you love cooking this is also a great opportunity. You can cook and deliver a meal for a Sonrise family in need. Contact Jessica Evans at 503-985-3256 to get involved.

  • Food Pantry
    • Food and other living essentials available for those who need it. Thursday afternoons 1-2:30pm.
Ways to Help: You can donate canned and dry food goods or plant extra in your garden over the summer to provide the pantry with fresh produce! If you are a gardener, you can also help tend the Sonrise garden space where all produce goes to the Food Pantry. Sonrise Food Pantry is also looking for volunteers to help on Thursdays and for volunteers who are willing to pick up food from the Oregon Food Bank on Tuesdays once a month. If interested please contact us at foodcloset@isonrise.com. More about the Food Pantry

  • Clothing Closet
    • Donate your used clothing in good condition to the Sonrise Clothing Closet!

  • 30 Minutes of Freedom
    • Children’s Outreach at the Hillsboro Tuesday Market (June-July). Parents can drop off their kids (ages 2-5) and experience 30 minutes of freedom while the kids are safely entertained by Sonrise volunteers. Volunteer for registration, play with kids or be a part of the set-up and tear-down crew! (Everyone involved over age 18 must become Safe-kid certified.)

  • The Outpost at Shute Park
    • Help provide children with a free nutritious lunch, activities & a fun, positive experience during the summer! (June-August)
