Our Christmas Story

01/14/11

I love Christmas. I love the meaning, the lights, decorating, the “magic”, and the gifts. Especially, I love giving them. I love to see the looks on people’s faces when they receive something they love or something unexpected. Our family has a huge heart for giving and we have been blessed to give both locally and globally throughout the years, but this year the story is different.

The past year has been a struggle as my husband lost his job of 15 years with only one month’s severance. We were blessed with some retirement and with his talents to be hired for some side projects. However, along with this, we have also been hit with car issues, major home issues, etc. Not only were we not able to meet many of these basic needs, but also it is really painful to not be able to give to things that are special to us, and also, to know that some of the things we gave to in the past, we now need for ourselves.

Amidst all of this, I know God has his arms around us, and we are blessed to be at Sonrise, among so many amazing people. Advent Conspiracy was probably not the foremost thought of most of the people who have helped our situation, but I wanted to share how we have been blessed by so many. First of all, our small group, friends and staff have all been in prayer for us. My small group also blessed us with some money to repair our cars. We were gifted with someone to make the repairs we needed. We do not have health insurance, and I have asthma, and a friend gifted me with an inhaler. Our computer died and was in serious need of repair, and another friend (my computer angel) slaved over it, fixed it, and made it faster and super amazing! We have been gifted with food and most importantly, we’ve been covered with love.

I just want to thank our family at Sonrise for loving us so much and to remind everyone how important it is to connect with others here. If we all bring the gifts that God has given us and a willingness to bless others, we will shine the love of Christ so brightly, it can’t be missed!
