Reading for Growth Group Leaders

There are some great books and resources available to improve your skills as a group leader. But one size doesn't fit all. These are "Sonrise-approved" materials you can read individually or in relationship with other group leaders to improve your skills as a leader at Sonrise Church:

Walking the Small Group Tightrope: Meeting the Challenges Every Group Faces. Six ways to improve your balance as a group leader. Sonrise Church Growth Groups are not "bible studies", "cel groups", "life groups", or "fellowship groups". They are life-changing communities where we grow as disciples of Jesus Christ. This book will help you acheive balance as a leader.

The Bait of Satan: Living Free from the Deadly Trap of Offence. Leading a group can easily take its toll on a leader, both emotionally and spiritually. We have an enemy who desires for you to fail. Becoming offended as a leader is the chief way of destroying the ministry and YOU.

Coaching Life-Changing Small Group Leaders: A Practical Guide for Those Who Lead and Shepherd Small Group Leaders. A required resource for all Sonrise Growth Group Coaches. This is the resource that you will use on a daily basis. Contact your Community Director for details.

Pathway to Leadership. See the link below. This is a mandatory process that all Sonrise Growth Group leaders must walk through in relationship with their coach or Community Director. PTL is a relational tool for apprentices to journey from growth group members to growth group leaders.

Pathway to Leadership:

Rev 1.0 (12.6.2010) for current growth group leaders and apprentices. Be sure to download both parts, PTL, and the accompanying Growth Group Leader Training Guide. Note: both tools are intended to be used in relationship with your apprentice ONLY. It is not a stand-alone document.

Download Sonrise Church Group Leader Training Guide 1.0 - Note: you will need to print this on 8.5x14" sheet, landscape, short edge binding, size to fit.

Growth Group Childcare Policy/Options

Sonrise Church knows parents are the primary spiritual influence for their children; we believe that parents should determine the best childcare responses for their family when it comes to non-weekend events and church meetings.
Because the age and makeup of the children in every small group is so different, the best way to take care of the children varies greatly from group to group. Here are some suggestions to deal with childcare for groups. If we can be of help, please don’t hesitate to contact Pastor Michael: michaels@isonrise.com

1. Have parents arrange childcare for their own children.
2. Have all of the parents pool their money to pay babysitters to watch all the children at a different room in the host home.
3. Have all of the parents pool their money to pay babysitters to watch all the children at a home other than the host home.
4. Have the older children (teens) supervise the younger children in another room of the host home.
5. Have a rotation schedule in which the adults from the group take turns supervising the children in another room of the host home.
6. Have a rotation schedule in which the adults from the group take turns supervising the children in a home other than the host home.
7. If appropriate, have someone lead a children’s small group simultaneous to the adult group in another room or location.
8. If appropriate, have children “supervise themselves” in another room of the host home.

Download a copy of our growth group guidelines and childcare policy.  You can print this out into a convenient half-sheet card. (updated June 24, 2010).

Sonrise Seminary: Top 10 Questions

No class this week! Plan to attend on Wed. 2/15 • 7-8:30pm • Sonrise Hillsboro: Rm. 120. The question of the week will be: Are miracles really possible?

Imagine the worst sort of crime possible. Now imagine a judge ruling over the offender and saying "you are forgiven". God's forgiveness of our sins is complete. The Bible says that he remembers our sins no more...click here to read more.
