At Sonrise Church, we believe that marriage is more than a civil contract between two people; it is a covenant between two people and God. We truly want your life together to be one that is in conformity to the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

When God originally designed marriage between a man and a woman, He called it “very good.” When a man and a woman would leave their families to be joined with one another, there was perfect fellowship between God and his creation. Man and woman had no shame before God. Marriage represented God’s perfect love for His creation.

At Sonrise Church, we are committed to honoring the institution of marriage as God originally intended, to give you the best possible chance for a successful and joyous marriage. We want to partner with God to help you receive the richest blessings and intimacy in your marriage.

Marriage and Pre-Marital Mentoring

Marriage Mentoring
Marriage Mentoring at Sonrise Church is an intentional relationship between a mentor couple and you. The purpose of Marriage Mentoring is to create a relational environment where the preparation (pre-marital), maximization (enrichment), or restoration (repair) of marriages can happen.  This materializes in a very close and intimate relationship between you and a loving, caring, and experienced couple.

Working as a Team
Our Mentor Couples will partner with God and with you to help you grow in your marriage.  As a team, we have equal, yet different roles in the marriage mentoring process:  

• God’s Role: God causes all things to grow. God, through the power of the Holy Spirit will work to open your hearts to your mentors and to each other so that healing and growth can happen. God will work on you independently of your spouse.
• Mentor Couple’s Role: To provide an intimate and confidential relational environment where there is safety to discuss the intricate details of your marriage. Mentors will willingly share what they know from their experiences. They will offer support, challenge, patience, and enthusiasm while guiding your marriage to new levels. Our mentors will maintain the strictest confidentiality when working with you.
• Your Role: Your role is to follow the lead of your mentors by being on time for meetings, completing homework assignments and be willing to share openly and honestly with your Mentor Couple. We ask couples to pray for the enrichment of their marriage and earnestly seek God’s will in their marriage. During this time you will be encouraged to work on yourself – only YOU, with the power of the Holy Spirit, can make a change in your life.

What is the Next Step?
The next step is to make an appointment with our Intake Specialist.  This meeting will help us connect you with a Mentor Couple or other opportunities to help you enrich, repair, or prepare for your marriage. Wedding Services

Sonrise Church offers wedding services for both on-campus and off-campus weddings. Part of the success of our marriage ministry is pre-marital mentoring for all couples, and the availability of a wedding facilitator for on-site weddings to make the day run more smoothly.  Please contact us at least six months prior to your planned wedding date to ensure availability of mentors, the building, and officiants.  Contact us at events@isonrise.com, stop by, or call 503-640-2449.  We are committed to walking with you during this exciting time in your life!

Sonrise Church sponsors local area experts and speakers in the matters of communication, sexual purity, Biblical roles of husbands and wives, and more through Couples Café.

Sonrise also partners with local churches to promote marriage enrichment such as marriage mentor training, couples conferences, couples retreats, and other enrichment opportunities.
