The Sonrise Food Pantry serves 1 week of food to each client family on a walk-in basis. We serve about 60-75 families a week, totalling about 300 families a month.

Here is how volunteers can help:

Any Questions? Emails us at foodpantry@isonrise.com.

OFB Pickup Teams

a team of people picks up our weekly order at the OFB warehouse, delivers it to the church, and puts it away. This requires lifting heavy boxes. We also have people who meet us at the church and help stock the shelves. These teams rotate so that this commitment is usually once a month for 2-3 hours.  Pickup occurs on tuesdays 10 am. We have a strong, ongoing need for helpers.

Local Store Shoppers

Our shoppers purchase/pickup needed items at local stores and deliver them to church. This is usually done on weekends. This does require shoppers to purchase items then submit the receipts for reimbursement (which occurs within one week). We have need for one team of shoppers at this time.

Thursdays

We disperse food on Thursdays from 12-1:30pm.  We have 3 shifts (many of our helpers work several shifts):

Startup shift: 10:00-11:30am

This team sets up and pre-bags the food

Mid shift: 12:30-3:00pm

This team fills client orders and delivers the food to their car

Closing shift: 2:00-3:30pm

This team finishes client orders, restocks, cleans up and puts away tables, chairs, etc.

We need help on all shifts. Anyone who wants to help on thursday should come by 11:00 am the first time for some required training.

Food Repack Teams

Volunteers who have or who are willing to get Food Handlers Cards repack bulk foods into family size servings. We get large 50 lb bags of flour, sugar, rice and beans. We portion them into 2 lb bags. This is done at the church, usually during the week when the Common Ground's counter are available to us.  We are in great need of help with this task.

Data Entry/Office Support

We need people who can help us with data entry as we move to our new on-line database. We also need people with good office skills to help with our weekly and monthly paperwork.

Here is how you can donate:

Adopt-A-Shelf Program

Many items our clients need are hard-to-get. Toiletries and soaps are not available through the Oregon Food Bank. To adopt a shelf, we encourage families or small groups to choose an item that they can commit to providing each month.  Groups can choose their level of commitment by choosing some or all of a needed item.  This enables us to supply neccesities like toilet paper, shampoo, dish soap, laundry soap, toothpaste and toothbrushes to every family who wants them.  For more info, contact Dot at foodpantry@isonrise.com.

Donate Funds

In 2010, It cost us an average of $6.77 per family for one week of food.  All of our funds come from donations from the Sonrise Church body.  IF you want to help us, please feel free to donate online or to drop your envelope into the offering baskets during services. Please mark all donations for "Food Pantry".

Donate Food and Toiletries

One-time donations of food and toiletries are always welcome. They can be dropped of at the church office during office hours, Monday- Thursday 9am-4pm.  You can also deliver donations to us before or after services on the weekend. Just ask at the Information Station for instructions.
